Back injury

Personal injury and the back

A back injury is one that refers to injuries such as sciatica, stenosis and a herniated disc. An injury to the spine is instead referred to as a spinal injury. The symptoms of back injuries include aches, spasms and what is known as referred pain. This is where the pain is experienced in an area other the site of the personal injury.

Back injury rehabilitation

Rehabilitation of back injuries will consist of stretching and strengthening exercises. They are designed to both improve mobility and also reduce any muscle pain. The abdominal muscles must be included in these exercises as they aid the body’s stabilisation and therefore the correct repair of the back muscles.

After the initial period of rehabilitation, bed rest was the old fashioned method of recovery; however this is no longer the case. It is recommended that the person suffering the personal injury should resume daily activity as soon as possible.
